Mike Dawson NZL's top internationally ranked athlete threw down the gauntlet to the slalom world where as the only athletes not coached , supported or funded by their nation raced into the semi finals in second place ( Mike Dawson 98.33) behind world champion and Olympic medalist Peter Kauzer SLO 97.64 and ahead of Olympic Medallist Matausze Palaczyk POL 98.50 . Mike currently ranked 21st in the world and 2009 Oceania Champion and Extreme Kayaking team World Champion was quietly pleased with his qualification result and is looking forward to the racing Sunday.
